Most old T/C Hawkens had a " twist, which may not be fast enough for a .458 535 grain bullet. Bye Jack It "might" stabilize with a heavy load but then it would kick badly too.
A 54 1/48 will stabilize a maxiball style 530 grain pill (they make a 430 and 530 grain one) but when you set it off with 120 grains a FF it REALLY gets your attention. Never used a 530 on game but I have no doubt it would be extremely effective on very larger game.

There's a few fellows over at the Muzzleloading forum that can give you an educated guess. I don't know for sure but I think my dad bought it at least 20 years ago. The TC Hawken is the only muzzleloader I know that you can put together completely with replacement and upgrade parts.
